Synopsis

20 years after the first zombie outbreak, Edie, a soap maker, still resides in her childhood home determined to protect other people from another potential outbreak. One evening, after dropping off soap at the post office, armed with only a burrito, Edie attempts to save her harmless, human neighbor Chad from a zombie that is charging at his back. There’s only one problem: throwing a burrito at a zombie only makes it angry at you. It turns out harmless, human Chad is actually an ancient, powerful vampire named Max, who instead of being rescued by Edie, is now left to save her and her burrito. After escaping an onslaught of zombies, and being ghosted by the government crisis line, Edie and Max must prepare to warn the people in the surrounding areas of a second zombie outbreak. And with life and death on the line, love blossoms between a happy-go-lucky human and a cynical vampire.

Review

If you’re looking for a fun, light romantic comedy I highly recommend checking this one out. There is some spice, but not so much that it’s every page, and if you really aren’t into spice it could honestly be skippable without ruining any romance or plot. I think Edie as a character is fun and dynamic, and I loved reading about an older, plus size FMC — it made her so much more relatable. This romance definitely errs on the side of insta-love but given that it’s about a vampire and a human in a zombie apocalypse, I think it’s forgivable. Some of the jokes can be a little much, leading to eye rolls but I think overall it really makes the story loveable. It’s quirky, fun, and once you get over the 30% hump of world building, I think it’s devourable.
