Synopsis

Have you ever had to date a professor to convince your best friend to date your ex boyfriend? No? Well Olive has. Olive, a third-year PhD student at Stanford University, finds herself in a bit of a bind when almost being caught in a lie by her best friend, Anh. Olive, who never really liked her ex boyfriend, Jeremy, in the first place, has finally convinced Anh to ask him out by telling Anh she’s started dating someone new. The only problem? Olive hasn’t started dating someone new. And Anh is about to catch Olive in a lie, so what does Olive do? Kisses the nearest person to her, who just so happens to be the one and only Dr. Adam Carlson, the hot, young professor who fuels the nightmares of every grad in her program. Adam and Olive enter into a fake dating scheme to help Olive ensure Anh’s happiness, while neglecting her own. Adam and Olive agree to fake date, and after Wednesday morning coffee dates, things may develop into more, as long as Olive stops lying to everyone.

Review

I will preface this review with the fact that Adam is never and has never been Olive’s teacher, so the student teacher dynamic in this book is a little less taboo. Personally, this helped a lot, but ultimately for me, it was more that if I just didn’t think about it being problematic then it didn’t feel problematic. While Adam wasn’t Olive’s teacher, or advisor, he was her roommates, which again if you just don’t think about it, it’s not a big deal. Ultimately, despite all of this, I really enjoyed this book. It was cute, it was funny, it was all the things a faking dating, grumpy x sunshine trope romance promises to be. Apparently this was also a Kylo/Ren (Star Wars) Fanfic originally, and you bet your booty, I only imagined Adam Carlson as Adam Driver after knowing that. If you’re looking for a fun, cute romance with some good banter between the MCs, I would highly recommend checking this book out.
